DATE: June 18, 2008
Associate Professor Jennifer Koski Receives Award

"The best professor I've ever had." "She somehow discovered a balance that ensured learning for everyone." "Not only does she demonstrate an incredible passion and expertise of her subject matter but she knows how to TEACH well." These comments are a sample of how MBA students described Jennifer Koski, Associate Professor of Finance at the University of Washington Foster School of Business, when they nominated her for the prestigious PACCAR Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Koski received the award during MBA commencement ceremonies on June 15th. This marks the 11th year the Foster School has honored a faculty member with the award, and the second time that Koski has received the honor. The award includes a $35,000 stipend from PACCAR Inc, a Seattle-based global technology leader in the capital goods and financial services markets.

Koski received her PhD from Stanford University and joined the UW Foster School of Business faculty in 1991. Her specialties include market microstructure, corporate dividend policy and stock splits. Upon receiving the award, Koski remarked "Thank you. I'm very surprised. I also want to let you all know how seriously this award is taken by faculty and in that sense I am also very deeply honored."

The PACCAR Award for Excellence in Teaching, given annually since 1998, is the most prestigious graduate school of business teaching award in the United States. Last year, PACCAR renewed the award for an additional 10 years and increased the amount of the stipend from $25,000 to $35,000.

"The PACCAR Award is the largest teaching award of its kind in the United States and we are proud that it is associated with the Foster School," said Dean James Jiambalvo. "We're extremely grateful for PACCAR's commitment to reward teaching excellence. The award speaks to one of the core values of our School—that we recruit and retain faculty who are truly stars in their profession. In addition to being outstanding scholars, our faculty members have the ability to connect with students as superb teachers and inspiring mentors."
