Discover career opportunities beyond Seattle and Washington State

Fulfilling careers exist beyond the boundaries of Washington State. Prestigious corporations are interested in hiring Foster MBAs. If you are excited by the idea of making a move as part of your career strategy, Road Shows and Treks help you make connections and explore opportunities in other cities. We even subsidize travel and lodging expenses for up to $300 for eligible students. See below for answers to commonly asked questions about Road Shows and Treks.

1.   Will there be networking with Foster MBA alumni?
In addition to regional alumni networking events planned each year in major metropolitan cities, MBA Career Services coordinates informal get-togethers with recent MBA alumni as part of Road Shows.

2.   How do I take part in a Road Show?
Students must attend pre-Road Show meetings and complete all required research in order to attend and receive funding.

3.   How do I take part in a Student-led Trek?
Student-led Treks must be pre-approved. This allows your MBA Career Services coach to help develop your contact list and give you the company's recruiting history with Foster.

4.   How do I get reimbursed?
Unsponsored MBA students in the evening and full-time MBA programs are eligible for up to three $300 reimbursements per year for either Foster School of Business Road Shows, the NSHMBA, NBMBAA and Asian MBA career expos, or Student-Led Treks. You must visit companies outside of Washington State in which you are actively and seriously pursuing a job. You must obtain prior written approval for the reimbursement from Bryan Tomlinson at btom@u.washington.edu. Your request for approval must include the career-related nature of your trip and the dates of the trip. (For career fairs and conferences with career fairs, an agenda will usually do.) You will also be required to submit a brief report on your new connections and follow-up plan upon returning.

Travel reimbursements are for airfare, hotel or mileage/gas expenses incurred solely by the individual student. No other travel expenses such as food, group expenditures, ground transportation or other types of expenses are covered. For a complete explanation, download a copy of the Reimbursement Guidelines. To be eligible for reimbursement, you must sign the Reimbursement Agreement before your trip.

If you still have questions about Road Shows, Treks or reimbursements, contact Bryan Tomlinson at btom@u.washington.edu.
