GSEC 2012-13 SCHEDULE

GSEC supports students as they develop innovative business models that achieve poverty alleviation and empowerment of the poor.   Throughout the process – from application to GSEC Week – students receive expert guidance, refine their business skills, develop their networks, and gain access to new resources.


November 8, 2012: Application deadline. Applications will open in the summer 2012.  Join the GSEC Facebook page to stay updated

November– mid December, 2012: Application review & GSEC semi-finalist team selection

December 2012 – GSEC Week 2013: Teams paired and work with mentors

January 24, 2013: GSEC drafts due (full business plan, one page executive summary)

February 14, 2013: GSEC final materials due (full business plan, one page executive summary, one overview PPT slide)

February 25 – March 1, 2013: GSEC Week (Seattle WA). All semi-finalist teams travel to Seattle for GSEC Week. Detailed schedule forthcoming




Attend the Global Social Entrepreneurship Competition Banquet on March 1 to celebrate student team innovation. Keynote speaker is Ben Packard, Starbucks VP, Global Responsibility.

Sanergy, a 2011 GSEC Team, won the Grand Prize and the Rotary Prize for Social Impact by pioneering a model to provide sustainable sanitation services in Kenya. Final Round judges commented that the team took "a really tough problem and presented a realistic and well thought out solution." Read more about the 2011 Winners.
