Student Consulting Program

The Business and Economic Development Center has developed a highly effective model for growing small businesses through consulting offered by UW Foster School of Business students and business executives. The Student Consulting Program has evolved in the Seattle area and has been replicated by colleges and universities throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Benefits to Your Business
Businesses selected to participate receive accounting and financial management assistance, risk management advice, mentoring from business executives, and access to cutting-edge business management techniques.

Your Support Network of Professional Partners
Partnerships with the King County Bar Association, the Seattle Rotary Club, Foster School of Business alumni and leading corporations enhance the more than 500 hours of consulting work provided to each client by students. Get Involved as a Business Advisor

Local business professionals have three opportunities to support the business clients participating in the BEDC Student Consulting Program:

  • Accounting Advisor (Fall 2012-Winter 2013) | Download Flyer-  Local Certified Public Accountants work with accounting students to evaluate the client's financial statements and ensure accuracy. CPAs meet with the business owners to review and ensure business owners understand what these statements say about their financial situation.
  • Rotary Mentor (Fall 2012)  | Download Flyer - Members of the Rotary Seattle Chapter are matched with a local business and help assess their business development needs. The Rotary Mentor works with the student consulting teams to ensure that the agreed upon needs are being met through the students' research and recommendations.
  • Professional Advisor (Winter 2013) | Download Flyer - Professional Advisors are matched with a group of Foster School students to guide them through a small business consulting experience. Your industry-specific knowledge and project management experience enables students to deliver measurable results for their small business clients while enhancing the student learning experience.
