2012 Summer Internship Program - Businesses

Good Hair Salon, owned by Danyale Thomas, has been in operation since 2006 in the Pratt Park neighborhood of downtown Seattle. This summer the firm has been working with BEDC student consultant Cynthia Chiou to develop a Human Resources strategy regarding the firm's management and employee policies. In addition, the consultant will create a thorough expansion plan for the company's future growth. 

LDC, Inc, has been in operation since 2003. This summer the civil and structural engineering firm has been working with BEDC student consultant Cynthia Chiou to develop a re-branding and public relations strategy. The team has been collaborating on creating mission and vision statements that align with goals and values most important to the firm. 

Seattle Bagel Bakery, owned by University of Washington graduate, AJ Ghambari, and located in Tukwila, SBB has been in operation since October 2010. This summer the company has been working with BEDC student consultant Cynthia Chiou to develop an expansion plan to target the Alaskan bagel market while also increasing the firm's local wholesale business. Additionally, the student consultant is working to increase the firm's operational efficiencies. The team is working hard to find alternative methods to help the young company reduce costs and increase efficiency. 

Atlantic Street Center, directed by Edith Elion, has delivered consulting services to youth and their families in central Seattle since 1910. This summer the center has been working with BEDC student Dillon Fischer to help develop: 1) a demographic study to identify the characteristics and geographic location of their target market (disadvantaged African American youth), 2) an efficient facilities arrangement that will help the organization run in a more effective and lean manner. 

Casa Patron, a Mexican restaurant owned by Sergio Garcia, located in the Roosevelt neighborhood of Seattle, has been in operation since 2010, and this summer has been working with BEDC student Dillon Fischer to help develop: 1) an effective marketing strategy that will include social media management to help the restaurant to grow its customer base, and 2) an assessment of demand and operations plan for a new catering service. 

O'Neill Environmental Services, owned by Dennis O'Neill, in Bellevue, has been in operation since 2008, and this summer has been working with BEDC student Dillon Fischer to help develop: 1) an effective marketing strategy that will advertise the firm's core strengths and help them establish themselves as a professional mid-size firm to break into the private sector, and 2) a financial costing system to track costs more effectively, allowing the firm to operate more profitably and effectively. 

BJ Paint and Carpet is a small, family owned business in Prosser, Washington that has been in business since 1983. BEDC student consultant Taylor Hoffard has been working with the company this summer to create a marketing and social media strategy, and improve the efficiency of the company's operations.

The Boys & Girls Club of Benton and Franklin Counties have been in operation since 1996; today they have eleven locations in the Tri-Cities area. This summer they have been working with BEDC student consultant Taylor Hoffard to develop a marketing plan. This plan will help promote the organization's strengths and encourage more families to take advantage of their services. 

White Shield Construction Services and Supply is a new company that is providing surveying, environmental, and engineering services to the Bakken Oil Field area of North Dakota. The company has been in operation for less than six months and is working with a BEDC student consultant Taylor Hoffard to construct a complete business plan to help solidify the company's direction and project its growth.  

A & L Truck Supply is a specialty truck and trailer accessories vendor with locations in California and Washington. The 12-year old business is family-owned and operated by Juan Cruz Gonzalez. This summer, BEDC student consultant Hector Perez is developing promotional strategies to increase local market share and to increase business as a whole within the Latino community. 

Legends Casino is one of the largest casinos in Washington State, with over 600 employees and 1,400 slot machines. Owned and operated by the Yakama Indian Nation, Legends first opened its doors in 1998 on Reservation land near Toppenish, Washington. In march of 2011, Legends announced its plans to begin a 90 million dollar hotel project. This summer, BEDC student consultant Hector Perez is helping Legends identify new customers and how to market to these customers once the hotel is complete.
