Freshman Direct Scholarship Program
Any freshman applicant to the UW who indicates Business Administration as the first choice of major will be considered for Freshman Direct Admission. Those students selected for admission to the Foster School of Business are then eligible to apply for a freshman scholarship. The Freshman Direct Scholarship Program is highly competitive.
Timeline
The Foster School of Business Freshman Direct scholarship application is available online shortly after Freshman Direct students are sent their admission notification from the Foster School of Business. The application deadline is usually around the middle to end of April with a decision notification time of end of June. Unfortunately, scholarship decisions are not available in time for the May 1 confirmation deadline.
Scholarship Application Information
There is one application for all scholarships offered to Freshman Direct students. The application is very similar to the one filled out by regular undergraduate students. You can see some of the questions asked on the Scholarship Information Sheet.
Eligibility
All entering freshmen offered admission to the Foster School of Business are eligible to apply for scholarship funding. Most awards are need based, and as such students are encouraged to fill out the FAFSA to determine eligibility. For information about the FAFSA, please visit the Office of Financial Aid.
Types of Awards
- Need: The majority of scholarships, ranging from $2,500 to $6,000, consider a student's merit and financial need in determining eligibility for award. You must be eligible for Financial Aid and have submitted a FAFSA to be considered for these awards.
- Renewable Funding: Most scholarship offers are limited to one year. However, some funds are renewable based on satisfactory progress and stated eligibility guidelines.
- Merit: There are limited scholarships that are awarded based on academic merit with no requirement for financial need. These merit based scholarships are available to all incoming Freshman Direct students, including international students.
Other Funding Opportunities
The UW Office of Merit Scholarships, Fellowships & Awards provides service for finding other funding sources. After the freshman year, business students may apply once annually to be considered for all scholarships that the Michael G. Foster School of Business has to offer to upper division students. Merit only scholarships are highly competitive. Need based scholarships are moderately competitive.
