The TMMBA International Study Tour Experience
The twin forces of technology and globalization bring tremendous challenges and untapped opportunities for businesses. Learn how to navigate an increasingly flat world by examining another global viewpoint. Themes of globalism, international strategy, macroeconomics and cross-cultural communication are infused throughout the TMMBA curriculum.
But the real hands-on exposure to globalization happens the spring of your second year when you take part in the optional International Study Tour. This trip broadens your business knowledge base and immerses you in a different culture. You’ll visit companies, tour manufacturing facilities, and meet business leaders and government officials.
2012 Study Tour Highlights:
Twenty students touched down in Singapore on March 10 for 10-days packed full of meetings with local agencies, company visits, and cultural excursions. During the study tour, students learned the dynamics of international business while enjoying the rich historical and cultural dimensions of Singapore and Beijing. They utilized business concepts, skills and strategic insights in a new cultural context and market economy - all while having fun and getting to know their classmates better!
"It was amazing how relevant our TMMBA courses were during our visits to Singapore and Beijing, both during cultural tours and company visits. The Global Strategy course taught by Kevin Steensma was particularly relevant, especially during our visit to China.
Many of the companies we met with spoke to the entry strategy options along with key points to consider when entering a new global marketplace; class discussions had previously exposed us to many of these factors.
Every company we visited or street vendor we encountered gave us a new opportunity to look at things through our new TMMBA lenses. It was an amazing trip!"
