Curriculum

Strategic thinking, leadership, and global business are fundamental to the Foster MBA core. Relative to other programs, the Foster MBA Program spends more time on strategy and global business in the core — both directly, in components on competitive strategy, global strategic management, and macroeconomics, and indirectly, in the choice of cases and projects.

The Foster MBA curriculum options are diverse, complex and challenging. Our graduates assume leadership roles across business sectors and around the globe. From established international corporations to nimble start-ups, high tech to high touch, Foster MBA graduates develop the tools to be effective leaders through a curriculum rich in business theory, practice and teamwork.

Preparing for Year One
Beginning with a clarification of your goals during PRIME and continuing through your first year with personal coaching, the Foster MBA support systems are in place to power your achievement.

Year One curriculum offers an integrated core of fundamental business concepts, skills and tools. This core wraps modules of varying length together for a solid foundation in the individual subjects — accounting, finance, marketing, operations management, and strategy — and an understanding of how they interrelate.

Year Two curriculum
focuses on your personal career objectives. Develop greater expertise in the areas directly related to your post-MBA degree career, while you increase your ability to take on cross-functional assignments. In addition to elective coursework, you complete final core classes in ethics and macroeconomics.

Year Two Activities
Flexibility is the signature of Year Two. Take two required courses and the remainder of the program is yours to create from a selection of elective courses within the Foster School of Business and various certificate programs, or from elective courses in other schools and colleges at the University of Washington. In addition to electives, click on the link year-two activities to explore the choices available.
