Schedule Options

Formats that fit your work and personal schedules

The Executive MBA Program offers two class-meeting schedule options to accommodate different work, travel and personal commitments. The North America program and Regional program have the identical curriculum, full-day classes and take 21-months to complete.

North America (Monthly) Class

The North America (monthly) Class appeals to people who: live or work outside of greater Seattle; travel frequently but live in Puget Sound; or prefer a concentrated class meeting time commitment.

•    Classes meet once a month for three or four consecutive days (Wednesday or Thursday through Saturday)
•    An on-line academic session is presented one night each week (usually on Mondays)
•    Study Group meetings are virtual
•    Residence Sessions, off-site week-long academic sessions, are held each fall

Arriving from as far away as New York and Alaska or as close as Bellevue and Belltown, students in the North America class spend three or four consecutive intense days together each month (housing is provided near the UW campus). Many students, especially those who live in Seattle, also appreciate this format because it takes them away from day-to-day responsibilities and distractions, allowing them to focus on their classes.

Students in the North America class see each other less frequently, but the time they spend
together is intense and their Residence Session experience has a collegiate feel.

Travel Options and Convenient Accommodations

•    Convenient lodging is provided for all students during class sessions
•    Shuttle transportation is available between the hotel and UW
•    Seattle's international airport offers easy access from most major cities in the U.S. and Canada. Students in the North American class are eligible for reduced-rate airfare to attend classes
•    Amtrak runs between Portland or Vancouver, B.C. and Seattle

Regional (Weekly) Class

The Regional (weekly) Class is designed for students who primarily work in the Seattle area.

•    Classes meet once a week, alternating Fridays and Saturdays
•    Study Groups meet weekly on campus or at a mutually convenient location (often at a team member's company)
•    Residence Sessions, off-site week-long academic sessions are held each fall

Find out why the North America format was such a good fit for Executive MBA graduates from different states as well as in Seattle.
Scott Lentz, North America program, Class of 2007I travel somewhere every week and my schedule is unpredictable. The North America format made it possible to complete the EMBA Program. The intensity of the on-site sessions in the North America class is truly a bonding experience—plenty of long days and nights, but also time to spend together as colleagues and friends.

Christopher West, Regional Program, Class of 2007The University of Washington's Executive MBA offered a perfect match for my schedule. I really didn't want to go to school in the evenings; the Regional Program, with alternating Friday and Saturday classes, was the least intrusive on family activities.
