Admissions Process
The Executive MBA Program uses a self-managed application process. You are responsible for providing the necessary information and documents to complete an application. We have developed a resource to guide you through the application instructions. We recommend reviewing the document before accessing the online admission application. In addition, you must ensure that the EMBA Program receives your application fee payment and all official transcripts, official GMAT results and Letter of Endorsement, which should be sent to the EMBA Program directly from those parties. Be sure to clearly communicate due dates with the appropriate parties to avoid any unnecessary delays in processing your application.
Letter of Endorsement
Candidates must be sponsored by their employing organizations and endorsed by senior management as potential general managers. In sponsoring EMBA candidates, organizations agree to release them on class days and, in some cases, to cover the program fee. Individuals who are NOT sponsored by a company, will need to submit an additional letter of recommendation in place of the Letter of Endorsement. Download the Letter of Endorsement form.
Letters of Recommendation
Three letters of recommendation are required and an additional one is required for self-employed applicants. You are responsible for providing the recommenders' names and e-mail address within the online application system. Recommenders receive an e-mail message generated from the Graduate School's application system providing a link to access the recommendation assessment grid and they are also instructed to upload recommendation letters (either Word, PDF or RTF document) that addresses the five areas indicated in the instructions.
GMAT
As part of the application process, applicants must submit results of the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). The GMAT measures basic verbal and mathematical aptitude and is one of several indicators used to assess a candidate's ability to succeed in the EMBA Program. You are responsible for having official results sent directly to the EMBA Program Office. If you are requesting result reports from a previous testing, the Foster School EMBA code is 459-75-85.
The test can be taken throughout the year. Applicants should take the GMAT by January if applying for the early decision deadline of February 1. If applying for the final deadline of May 1, the GMAT should be completed by April. In exceptional cases, applicants may take the GMAT late. However, doing so puts them at a disadvantage in the admissions process.
Candidates are advised to prepare for the GMAT by becoming familiar with the test format and content and, if necessary, reviewing algebra and geometry. GMAT preparation guides and software are available in many bookstores. Those needing further preparation should consider tutoring or refresher courses. Information on GMAT preparation is available through the EMBA Office.
Test registration information may be obtained from the EMBA Office or by contacting the Graduate Management Admission Council:

Transcripts
TWO sealed copies of official transcripts from your degree granting institution are required. Transcripts should be sent directly to the Foster School Executive MBA Program. In the case of international applicants, if the original language of the academic record and diploma is not English, a certified English translation must also accompany the original document. The EMBA Program Office will secure any University of Washington transcripts.
Application Workshop
You are invited to attend an informative one-hour session to learn how to submit your best application. Workshops begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Bank of America Executive Education Center at the Michael G. Foster School of Business.
