Internships
Requirements of Accounting 495
Current Foster undergraduate accounting students may earn Acctg 495 internship credits after completing Acctg 301.
Benefits
An internship is an opportunity to gain valuable professional experience and to learn on-the-job skills that will make students more valuable candidates for permanent positions. The experiences gained through internship will also assist students in making academic choices on what classes and area of accounting specialization to focus on.
How to Apply
Internship credit can only be earned with a new position. A student can find the position through the University of Washington Center for Career Services with HuskyJobs, company Web sites or through any outside career or job sites. An internship can be paid or unpaid, but must be supervised by an accounting manager or CPA. Acctg 495 credit can be earned with a full-time or part-time job and does not need to begin or end at the same time an academic quarter begins or ends. In Acctg 495, students can earn one credit for each ten hours a week of work over a ten week period (100 hours), so that 4 credits can be earned for a full-time position which lasts at least ten weeks. Up to 8 credits can be earned, but only 4 credits per employer or position.
To earn Acctg 495 internship credit, students must complete the following:
- A one page mid-quarter update by email
- A final paper of at least 1500 words
- An employer evaluation certifying sucessful completion and total hours worked
